$28–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Active DPF regeneration does not start
  • Reduced engine power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible black smoke from the exhaust pipe

Causes

  • Faulty exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor in bank 2
  • Open or short circuit in the EGT sensor circuit
  • Problems with injectors causing over-rich mixture and increased temperature
  • Malfunction of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve in bank 2
  • Mechanical damage or clogging of the exhaust system

How to Fix

  1. Read trouble codes and freeze frame data using a diagnostic scanner
  2. Check the readings and resistance of the bank 2 exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors
  3. Visually inspect the wiring harness and sensor connectors for damage.
  4. Check the operation of the injectors and EGR system
  5. If necessary, replace the faulty EGT sensor or repair the wiring
