Symptoms

  • The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) does not illuminate when the ignition is turned on.
  • The MIL lamp is constantly on, even in the absence of malfunctions
  • MIL does not come on when other fault codes are present
  • Unable to read trouble codes through diagnostic scanner

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in MIL control circuit
  • Poor contact in MIL circuit connectors
  • Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
  • Burnt out MIL lamp
  • Circuit Grounding Problems

How to Fix

  1. Check the status of the MIL lamp in the instrument panel
