Symptoms

• The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) does not illuminate when the ignition is turned on.
• The MIL lamp is constantly on, even in the absence of malfunctions
• MIL does not come on when other fault codes are present
• Unable to read trouble codes through diagnostic scanner

Causes

• Open or short circuit in MIL control circuit
• Poor contact in MIL circuit connectors
• Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
• Burnt out MIL lamp
• Circuit Grounding Problems

How to Fix

1. Check the status of the MIL lamp in the instrument panel
2. Inspect the MIL control circuit harness and connectors for damage.
3. Check the voltage and resistance in the MIL control circuit
4. If necessary, replace the burnt-out MIL lamp
5. If the problem persists, the ECU may need to be replaced or flashed
