Symptoms

  • Incorrect gear shifting
  • Transmission of the gearbox into emergency mode
  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Reduced engine power
  • Jerks when shifting gears

Causes

  • Shaft B speed sensor fault
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Poor contact in the sensor connector
  • Transmission control module (TCM) malfunction
  • Low or contaminated transmission fluid

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid
  2. Check the integrity of the sensor wiring and connectors
  3. Check the resistance of shaft speed sensor B
  4. Replace shaft speed sensor B if necessary
  5. Check and, if necessary, replace the transmission control unit
