- Black smoke from the exhaust pipe (when the mixture is over-rich)
Causes
- Wear or damage to the cam disk, rotor or plunger pair of the injection pump
- Fuel control solenoid valve malfunction
- Mechanical fuel quantity regulator stuck
- Low fuel pressure in the priming system
- Contamination of fuel or water in the fuel system
How to Fix
- Check the pressure in the low pressure fuel line
- Diagnose the operation of the fuel injection pump control solenoid valve
- Check the condition of the fuel filter and the presence of water in the fuel
- Remove and diagnose the injection pump on a bench to assess the wear of the plunger pair and other components
- If necessary, replace or repair the injection pump
