Symptoms

• Check Engine light comes on
• Reduced engine power
• Increased fuel consumption
• Unstable idling
• Difficulty starting the engine

Causes

• VVT actuator position sensor malfunction
• Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
• Poor contact in the sensor connector
• Engine control unit malfunction
• Mechanical problems in the timing system

How to Fix

1. Check the integrity of the sensor wiring and connectors
2. Check the resistance and signal of the VVT position sensor
3. Check the operation of the VVT actuator
4. If necessary, replace the VVT position sensor
5. Check and, if necessary, update the ECU software
