Symptoms

  • Heater fan does not work
  • Fan only works at some speeds
  • Fan fuse blows
  • Extraneous noise from the motor

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in wiring harness
  • Faulty fan relay
  • Blown fuse
  • Fan motor wear
  • Problems with contacts in connectors
  • Faulty control button or resistor

How to Fix

  1. Check the fuse corresponding to the fan circuit
  2. Make sure the fan relay is working properly
  3. Check the power at the motor connector with the ignition on
  4. Check the motor itself by applying power directly
  5. Visually inspect the wiring harness for damage.
  6. Check the operation of the control button and additional resistor (if any)
  7. Replace fan motor or circuit components as necessary
