Symptoms

• The ABS/ESP indicator on the dashboard is on
• Reduced efficiency of the ABS system
• Loss of stabilization during sudden maneuvers
• Incorrect speedometer readings (rare)

Causes

• Damage to the wheel speed sensor
• Tone wheel is dirty or damaged
• Broken or damaged wiring to the sensor
• Corrosion at the sensor mounting location
• ABS control unit malfunction

How to Fix

1. Visual inspection of the sensor and wiring
2. Checking the integrity of the tone wheel
3. Cleaning the sensor and seat
4. Replacing the wheel speed sensor if necessary
5. Replacing the tone wheel (rarely needed)
6. Resetting the error and checking the system operation
