Symptoms

  • The ESP/ESC or stabilization system indicator is on
  • Stability control system disabled
  • ABS light is on (on some configurations)
  • The car does not respond to ESP activation when skidding
  • Error code persists after reset

Causes

  • Malfunction of the lateral acceleration sensor itself
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Oxidation of the sensor connector
  • Mechanical damage or displacement of the sensor
  • ESP/ABS module malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Read ABS/ESP module error codes
  2. Check the sensor supply voltage and ground integrity
  3. Check the sensor signal with the car in a static position
  4. Inspect the sensor for mechanical damage
  5. Replace the lateral acceleration sensor (often assembled with a sensor unit)
  6. Calibrate the sensor after replacement
