Symptoms

  • ABS warning light is on
  • ABS, ESP and traction control systems are disabled
  • Possible incorrect speedometer readings
  • Unstable behavior of the car when braking
  • Additional chassis errors may appear

Causes

  • Increased gap between sensor and drive ring
  • The speed sensor is contaminated with metal shavings or dirt
  • Damaged wiring - high resistance in the circuit
  • Wear of the drive ring (impulse rotor)
  • Malfunction of the speed sensor itself
  • Wheel bearing wear

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes and check speed sensors in real time
  2. Inspect and clean the left rear wheel speed sensor
  3. Check the gap between the sensor and the setting ring (the norm is 0.3–1.5 mm depending on the model)
  4. Measure the resistance of the sensor and wiring with a multimeter
  5. Inspect the drive ring for damage
  6. Replace the sensor or fix the wiring problem
