ABS Pump Motor Control Circuit Low

Symptoms

  • ABS and ESP warning lights are on
  • ABS does not work during emergency braking
  • Absence of the characteristic sound of the ABS pump
  • Possible increase in braking distance on slippery roads
  • The brake pedal may become harder

Causes

  • Open circuit in the pump motor control circuit
  • Malfunction of the control transistor/relay in the ABS unit
  • Mechanical jamming of the pump motor
  • Low voltage on-board network (discharged battery)
  • Oxidation of the contacts of the power connector of the ABS block
  • Pump circuit fuse blown

How to Fix

  1. Read all ABS/ESP system error codes
  2. Check ABS pump circuit fuse
  3. Measure battery voltage (at least 12.4 V)
  4. Check the voltage at the motor connector when the pump is activated
  5. Measure the motor winding resistance
  6. Inspect the ABS unit power connector for oxidation.
  7. If the motor or unit is faulty, replace the faulty component
