Symptoms
- ABS warning light is on
- ABS, ESP and traction control systems are disabled
- Possible false alarms of ABS when braking
- Unstable speed readings on the display
- Incorrect operation of the odometer
Causes
- Right front wheel speed sensor dirty
- Increased gap between sensor and drive ring
- Damage to the sensor wiring (chafing, wire breakage)
- Malfunction of the sensor itself (internal defect of channel B)
- Worn or damaged drive ring on the hub
- Wheel bearing play of the right front wheel
How to Fix
- Read error codes and check the data of all speed sensors with a scanner
- Inspect the right front wheel speed sensor - clean from dirt and metal shavings
- Check the gap between the sensor and the drive ring
- Measure the resistance and voltage of the sensor signal (both channels)
- Inspect the wiring from the sensor to the ABS unit for damage.
- Check the drive ring and wheel bearing for play
- Replace the sensor if it is confirmed to be faulty
