Symptoms

- Difficulty starting the engine
- Jerks when accelerating
- Check Engine Light Illuminates
- Black smoke from the exhaust pipe
Causes
- Faulty fuel volume regulator
- Damage to wiring or connectors in the regulator circuit
- Oxidation or corrosion of contacts
- Engine control unit (ECU) malfunction
- Problems with the high pressure fuel pump
- Fuel filter clogged
- Malfunction of fuel pressure sensors
How to Fix
- Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all error codes
- Check the voltage and signals in the fuel volume regulator circuit
- Inspect wiring and connectors for damage
- Measure the resistance of the regulator circuit
- Check the operation of the fuel pump and the pressure in the system
- If necessary, replace the fuel volume regulator
- Clean or replace the fuel filter
- Check and, if necessary, replace damaged wiring
- Clear error codes and test drive
