Symptoms

  • Unstable engine idling

  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Difficulty starting the engine
  • Engine knocking or knocking
  • Uneven operation in transient conditions

Causes

  • Faulty exhaust valve control solenoid
  • Open or short circuit in solenoid wiring
  • Contaminated engine oil
  • Clogged oil channels of the VVT system
  • Engine ECU malfunction
  • Mechanical malfunction of the phase change mechanism
  • Low oil pressure in the system

How to Fix

  1. Read and record all error codes using a diagnostic scanner
  2. Check the level and condition of the engine oil, replace if necessary
  3. Check electrical connections and VVT solenoid wiring
  4. Measure the solenoid resistance (should be 6-12 ohms)
  5. Check the supply voltage at the solenoid connector
  6. Remove and clean the solenoid from oil deposits
  7. If necessary, replace the faulty solenoid
  8. Clear error codes and test drive
  9. Recheck for errors
