Symptoms

  • Reduced engine power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Unstable operation at idle
  • Black or blue smoke from the exhaust pipe
  • Whistling sounds from turbocharger
  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Poor acceleration response

Causes

  • Broken or damaged wiring to the bypass valve solenoid
  • Short circuit in control circuit
  • Bypass valve solenoid malfunction
  • Mechanical jamming of the bypass valve
  • Corrosion or oxidation of contacts
  • Engine control unit malfunction
  • Low system voltage
  • Clogged vacuum lines

How to Fix

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all error codes
  2. Visually check the condition of the wiring to the bypass valve solenoid
  3. Measure the resistance of the valve solenoid (usually 20-30 ohms)
  4. Check the supply voltage at the solenoid connector with the engine running.
  5. Test valve operation using a vacuum pump
  6. Clean or replace solenoid if necessary
  7. Check and clean vacuum lines
  8. Replace damaged wiring or connectors
  9. Clear error memory and test drive
  10. If necessary, replace the entire bypass valve actuator
