Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Illuminated
  • Display constant temperature -40°C or other fixed value
  • Problems with automatic climate control

Causes

  • Ambient temperature sensor malfunction
  • Broken or damaged wiring to the sensor
  • Short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Corrosion or oxidation of connector contacts
  • Mechanical damage to the sensor
  • Malfunction of the engine control unit (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Connect the diagnostic scanner and read the fault codes
  2. Check the ambient temperature sensor readings in real time
  3. Visually inspect the sensor for mechanical damage
  4. Check the condition of the sensor connector and clean the contacts from corrosion
  5. Measure the resistance of the sensor with a multimeter and compare with the technical specifications
  6. Check the integrity of the wiring from the sensor to the ECU
  7. If necessary, replace the ambient temperature sensor
  8. Clear error codes and test drive to verify troubleshooting
