Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Unstable engine operation at idle
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Difficulty starting the engine
  • Reduced engine power
  • Black smoke from the exhaust pipe

Causes

  • Broken wiring of the intake air temperature sensor
  • Short circuit in the sensor circuit to power
  • IAT2 sensor malfunction
  • Oxidation or corrosion of connector contacts
  • Wiring harness damage
  • Engine ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and read all error codes
  2. Check the supply voltage of the IAT2 sensor (should be 5V)
  3. Measure sensor resistance at different temperatures
  4. Inspect wiring and connectors for damage
  5. Check the continuity of the circuit between the sensor and the ECU
  6. If necessary, replace the intake air temperature sensor
  7. Clear error codes and test drive
  8. Recheck for errors
