Symptoms

• Unstable engine operation
• Increased fuel consumption
• Difficulty starting
• Check Engine light comes on

Causes

• Open or short circuit in the fuel temperature sensor circuit
• Fuel temperature sensor malfunction
• Oxidation of contacts or poor connection
• Wiring harness damage
• ECU problems (rare)

How to Fix

1. Check the integrity of the wiring and contacts in the sensor circuit
2. Test the resistance of the fuel temperature sensor
3. Clean or replace oxidized contacts
4. Replace the fuel temperature sensor if necessary
5. Check wiring harness for damage
6. Reset the error and check if it returns
