Symptoms

• Difficulty starting the engine when cold
• Black smoke from the exhaust pipe when starting
• Unstable engine operation after starting
• Smell of fuel in exhaust gases
• Check Engine Light Illuminates

Causes

• Malfunction of the cold start injector itself
• Open or short circuit in the injector circuit
• Faulty injector thermal switch
• Oxidation of the injector connector
• Cold start injector relay malfunction

How to Fix

1. Read error codes and perform initial diagnostics
2. Check the injector electrical circuit: supply voltage and ground
3. Check the operation of the thermal switch
4. Measure the resistance of the injector winding (standard 10–15 Ohms)
5. Check the injector for leakage and spraying
6. If necessary, replace the cold start injector or thermal switch
