$6–56 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light is on
  • Unstable operation of the EGR system
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Increased NOx emissions
  • In some cases - harsh engine operation under load
  • Emergency EGR control mode possible

Causes

  • Faulty EGR temperature sensor B
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Oxidation or corrosion of the sensor connector
  • Damage to wiring due to high temperatures (sensor located in hot gas area)
  • Clogged or leaking EGR system
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Read all error codes with scanner
  2. Check the voltage in the EGR temperature sensor circuit B with the ignition on
  3. Inspect the wiring and connector for melts, insulation cracks, and oxidation.
  4. Measure the resistance of the sensor (NTC thermistor) and compare with the table of values
  5. Check the sensor ground circuit
  6. Replace EGR temperature sensor B if the fault is confirmed
  7. Clean the EGR system from carbon deposits if necessary.
  8. Reset the code and take a test drive
