Symptoms

• Check Engine light is on
• Detonation under load (especially when the engine is warm)
• Hard engine operation
• Increased NOx emissions
• Increased fuel consumption
• On diesel cars - smoke from the exhaust under load

Causes

• Carbon and deposits blocking the valve disc
• Corrosion and rust on the valve stem
• Valve deformation due to overheating
• Damaged valve actuator
• Broken control wiring with electric actuator
• Clogged EGR supply tubes to the valve

How to Fix

1. Read error codes and check for related codes
2. Find the EGR valve B and visually inspect it
3. Try to open the valve manually (with the unit disassembled) or by blowing
4. Remove the valve and wash with a special carbon cleaner
5. If it is impossible to open, replace the EGR valve B
6. Clean the tubes and gas supply channels to the valve
7. Check the valve actuator (vacuum or electric) for functionality
8. Reset the code and take it for a test drive to check
