Symptoms

• The fuel filler cap does not open with the button
• Check Engine Light Is On
• It is impossible to refuel the car in the normal way
• Lid locked in closed position

Causes

• Short circuit to power in the actuator control circuit
• Malfunction of the fuel tank cap lock actuator
• Damage to wiring or connector
• ECU malfunction
• Oxidation of connector contacts

How to Fix

1. Read and write error codes with a diagnostic scanner
2. Check the voltage in the actuator control circuit using a multimeter
3. Inspect the wiring and connector of the actuator for damage and oxidation
4. Check the lock actuator for proper resistance
5. Eliminate short circuit or replace damaged section of wiring
6. Replace the actuator if necessary
7. Reset the error code and check the system operation
