Symptoms

• Check Engine Light Is On
• Unstable idle (speed jumps)
• Engine stalls when braking or stopping
• Idle speed too high or low
• Poor response when turning on the air conditioner

Causes

• Faulty idle air control (IAC)
• Open or shorted in IAC control circuit
• Oxidation or contamination of the IAC connector
• IAC valve clogged with deposits
• ECU malfunction

How to Fix

1. Read error codes with scanner
2. Find the idle air control according to the diagram (usually on the throttle assembly or nearby)
3. Check the supply voltage and control signals at the IAC connector
4. Measure the resistance of the windings IAC (compare with the norm)
5. Inspect IAC valve for blockage and clean
6. Check wiring for breaks and shorts
7. Replace IAC if parameters do not match
8. Reset the error and check the idle speed in different modes
