P0517

Symptoms

• Error message on the dashboard
• Reduced charging system efficiency
• Incorrect operation of the Start-Stop system
• Power limitation in hybrid systems

Causes

• Battery temperature sensor malfunction
• Open or short circuit in wiring harness
• Poor contact in the sensor connector
• Battery Management Module (BMS) Problems
• Battery overheating

How to Fix

1. Check the temperature sensor reading using a diagnostic scanner
2. Visually inspect the sensor and wiring harness for damage
3. Check the sensor resistance depending on the temperature (compare with the manufacturer’s specifications)
4. Check continuity between sensor and ECU
5. Clean or replace connectors if necessary
6. Replace the battery temperature sensor if the fault is confirmed
7. Reflash the battery management module if a software failure is suspected
