Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • PCV valve freezing in cold weather
  • Increased oil consumption in cold weather
  • Oil deposits in the intake manifold
  • Unstable engine idling in winter

Causes

  • Broken wire in the PCV heating element circuit
  • Oxidation or damage to the heater connector
  • PCV valve heating element failure
  • Heating circuit relay or fuse malfunction
  • ECU malfunction (rare)

How to Fix

  1. Check the PCV heating circuit fuse according to the vehicle diagram
  2. Inspect the connector and wiring of the heating element for oxidation and breaks.
  3. Measure the resistance of the heating element (usually 5–20 Ohms)
  4. Check for power supply at the connector with the ignition on
  5. If a malfunction is detected, replace the heating element or PCV valve assembly
  6. Reset the error with a scanner and check that it does not reappear
