Symptoms
- Check Engine Light Illuminates
- Emergency engine operation (power limitation)
- Increased fuel consumption
- DPF or catalytic converter errors
- Real overheating of the exhaust system (in rare cases)
Causes
- Broken wire or connector of the EGT sensor
- Malfunction (failure) of the EGT sensor
- Short circuit in the sensor circuit to power
- Real overheating of exhaust gases due to improper engine operation
- Oxidation of sensor connector contacts
How to Fix
- Inspect the EGT sensor connector and wiring for damage and oxidation.
- Measure sensor resistance at different temperatures according to specification
- Check the integrity of the signal wire from the sensor to the ECU
- If the circuit is broken, restore the wiring or replace the harness
- If the wiring is OK, replace the exhaust gas temperature sensor
- Reset the error and make sure it doesn't reappear
