Approx. repair cost
$22–167 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Cruise control doesn't work at all
  • Check Engine Light Illuminates
  • Lack of servo response to control commands
  • Possible ECU fault code (internal output error)

Causes

  • Servo control circuit short to ground
  • Closing two wires of the servo circuit together
  • Internal short circuit in the actuator winding to the housing
  • Damage to wire insulation (friction against sharp edges of the body)
  • ECU output stage malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Disconnect the servo connector and check if the code disappears (to isolate the fault)
  2. Measure the resistance between the servo drive control terminals and ground (should not be close to zero)
  3. Test the control circuit wires from the ECU to the servo drive for a short to ground.
  4. Inspect the wiring for signs of insulation chafing
  5. If the wiring is correct, replace the servo drive
  6. If the servo drive is working properly, diagnose the ECU output stage
