Engine Coolant Pressure Sensor Circuit
Severity
⚠️ MediumCan you drive?
Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$22–133 (est.)
Symptoms
- Check Engine Light Is On
- Possible engine emergency mode with power limitation
- Coolant temperature readings may be unstable
- Cooling system warning on instrument panel
- In rare cases, engine overheating when the protection system is not working
Causes
- Faulty coolant pressure sensor
- Open or short circuit in sensor wiring
- Poor contact or corrosion in the sensor connector
- Coolant leak leading to pressure drop
- ECU malfunction (extremely rare)
How to Fix
- Connect the diagnostic scanner, read all codes and frozen frame data
- Check the level and condition of the coolant in the expansion tank
- Inspect the coolant pressure sensor and its connector for damage or corrosion.
- Check the sensor wiring with a multimeter: 5V power supply, ground, integrity of the signal wire
- Check the sensor readings with a scanner in real time and compare with the actual pressure
- Replace the sensor if it is confirmed to be faulty after eliminating wiring problems
