Symptoms
- Check Engine light is on
- Eco Mode button does not activate economy mode
- Eco mode may stay on all the time (stuck)
- The Eco indicator is not on the display or is constantly on
- Minor change in fuel consumption or engine performance
Causes
- Short circuit of the signal wire of the switch to power (+12V or +5V)
- Insulation damage with a short to an adjacent high-voltage wire
- Switch internal short to power (switch failure)
- Moisture entering the connector, creating a path between the wires
- Poor quality repairs or non-standard additional equipment
How to Fix
- Read the codes and data of the frozen frame with a scanner, pay attention to the conditions for the appearance of the code
- Find and inspect the Eco Mode switch, check the connector for moisture and damage
- Disconnect the switch connector and measure the voltage on the signal wire - if there is voltage without the switch connected, look for a short to power
- Inspect the wiring harness to the switch for bare spots, chafing, contact with other wires
- Check the switch itself with a multimeter for internal shorts
- Repair damaged wiring or replace switch
