Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on during a cold start, goes off after the engine warms up.
  • Uneven engine operation during cold start on one side (V-shaped)
  • Slight reduction in power when the engine is cold
  • Increased fuel consumption during the warm-up phase
  • Delays when accelerating a cold engine

Causes

  • Engine oil viscosity does not meet manufacturer's requirements
  • Bank 2 Camshaft A VVT solenoid dirty or worn
  • Wear of the phase shifter (VVT clutch) of bank 2
  • Low oil pressure is a common cause with both P05CC and P05CD
  • Bank 2 Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check the level and condition of the engine oil; if the viscosity does not match, replace the oil with filter
  2. Read all codes; the presence of P05CC together with P05CD indicates a system problem (oil, pump)
  3. Check Bank 2 VVT Solenoid: Check electrical resistance and mechanical function
  4. Wash bank 2 VVT solenoid with a special cleaner; replace if necessary
  5. Check oil pressure with a cold and warm engine
  6. If the code is persistent only P05CD, check the phase shifter of bank 2 for contamination and wear.
