$33–389 (est.)
Symptoms
- The Check Engine light comes on during a cold start, goes off after the engine warms up.
- Uneven engine operation during cold start on one side (V-shaped)
- Slight reduction in power when the engine is cold
- Increased fuel consumption during the warm-up phase
- Delays when accelerating a cold engine
Causes
- Engine oil viscosity does not meet manufacturer's requirements
- Bank 2 Camshaft A VVT solenoid dirty or worn
- Wear of the phase shifter (VVT clutch) of bank 2
- Low oil pressure is a common cause with both P05CC and P05CD
- Bank 2 Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction
How to Fix
- Check the level and condition of the engine oil; if the viscosity does not match, replace the oil with filter
- Read all codes; the presence of P05CC together with P05CD indicates a system problem (oil, pump)
- Check Bank 2 VVT Solenoid: Check electrical resistance and mechanical function
- Wash bank 2 VVT solenoid with a special cleaner; replace if necessary
- Check oil pressure with a cold and warm engine
- If the code is persistent only P05CD, check the phase shifter of bank 2 for contamination and wear.
