Cold Start B Camshaft Position Timing Performance Bank 2

Severity
⚠️ Medium

Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$33–444 (est.)

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on mainly during cold starts.
  • Uneven engine operation on bank 2 side during warm-up
  • Delayed warm-up of the left (right) side of the engine
  • Increased emissions in the first minutes after startup
  • Code can be combined with P05CE or P05CD

Causes

  • Poor quality motor oil or inappropriate viscosity
  • Exhaust camshaft VVT solenoid fouled Bank 2
  • Wear of the bank 2 exhaust shaft phase shifter
  • Insufficient oil pressure (especially with all four codes)
  • Bank 2 (exhaust) camshaft position sensor malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Immediately check the quality and level of engine oil; if the viscosity does not match, replace it
  2. Read all error codes - the presence of P05CC+P05CD+P05CE+P05CF indicates a common cause (oil, pump)
  3. With P05CF isolated: Locate Bank 2 Exhaust Shaft VVT Solenoid on Engine Diagram
  4. Check the electrical resistance of the solenoid (7–12 Ohms); wash or replace
  5. Check oil pressure during cold start: normal - usually from 0.3 bar at idle to 3-4 bar at 3000 rpm
  6. Replace the bank 2 exhaust shaft phase shifter if the code remains after flushing the solenoid
