Symptoms

  • Start-stop system blocked
  • The start-stop system malfunction indicator is on

  • Possible associated CAN network errors

Causes

  • Short circuit of status signal wire to power supply (+12V or +5V)
  • Malfunction of the control unit generating the status signal
  • Damage to the signal wire insulation (touching the positive bus)
  • Incorrect connection after repair
  • Engine ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Read codes, check all errors in the start-stop system
  2. Measure the voltage on the status signal line with the ignition on and off
  3. If the voltage is high when the ignition is turned off, there is a short circuit in the wiring
  4. Disable control units one by one to localize the source of the high signal
  5. Check the wiring for contact with the positive tires
  6. Replace or reprogram the faulty unit
