Symptoms
- The Check Engine light comes on
- Emergency mode with severe power limitation
- Throttle valve does not open above a certain position
- Unstable idle speed
- Lack of response to the gas pedal or slow response
Causes
- Internal error processing the TPS signal in the ECU
- Malfunction of the ADC in the throttle signal circuit
- Inconsistency between the signals of two TPS sensors (if two are installed)
- Unstable power supply to the throttle control system
- Software failure or outdated ECU firmware
How to Fix
- Read all error codes - look for P0120–P0124 (TPS sensor errors)
- Check the power and grounding of the throttle position sensor
- Measure the voltages of the TPS1 and TPS2 signals at different pedal positions
- Perform throttle valve adaptation via dealer scanner
- Check for technical bulletins (TSB) and update ECU firmware
- If the sensor and wiring are working - diagnostics/replacement of the ECU
