Symptoms
- The Check Engine light comes on
- Difficulty starting or failure to start
- Unstable engine operation
- Misfire
- Injector failure due to faulty FICM power relay
Causes
- Faulty FICM power relay (stuck, coil broken)
- Open or short circuit in the relay control circuit
- Damage to relay connector or wiring
- ECU malfunction (relay control output transistor)
- Relay circuit fuse is damaged
How to Fix
- Check FICM relay circuit fuse
- Check FICM relay - replace with a known good one
- Measure the voltage on the relay coil when commanded by the ECU
- Check the wiring and connectors between the ECU and the relay for open/short circuits
- If the external circuit is normal, check the output signal of the relay control ECU
- If the ECU is confirmed to be faulty, repair or replace the unit
