Fuel Injector Control Module Performance

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Difficulty starting the engine, especially when cold
  • Misfire, engine vibration
  • Black or white smoke from the exhaust pipe
  • Significant reduction in power and traction

Causes

  • FICM internal fault
  • Unstable FICM supply voltage
  • Damage to high voltage capacitors inside the FICM
  • Corrosion or break in the ECU-FICM communication circuit
  • FICM overheating

How to Fix

  1. Check the FICM supply voltage (on Ford 6.0L the norm is 48 V under load)
  2. Read FICM self-diagnosis data via a professional scanner
  3. Check the wiring and connectors between the ECU and FICM
  4. Measure the FICM control signals on the injectors with an oscilloscope
  5. If the voltage drops below normal - repair or replace the FICM
  6. Replace FICM if internal fault is confirmed
