Symptoms

• The Check Engine light comes on
• The automatic transmission goes into emergency mode (only one gear)
• Incorrect or hard gear shifting
• Automatic transmission stuck in one gear
• Error codes in the transmission control unit

Causes

• TCM processor internal fault
• Unstable TCM power or ground
• Moisture or corrosion in the transmission ECU
• TCM overheating
• Incorrect reprogramming or damaged TCM firmware

How to Fix

1. Read error codes from TCM with a professional scanner
2. Check TCM supply voltage and ground
3. Inspect the TCM for signs of moisture, corrosion, or overheating.
4. Check with the manufacturer for TCM firmware updates
5. If an internal malfunction is confirmed, repair or replace the TCM
6. After replacing the TCM - programming for VIN and automatic transmission adaptation
