Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • The battery lamp does not light up when there is a charging fault
  • Or the battery light is constantly on for no reason
  • Incorrect operation of the charging indication system
  • No visual warning of problems with the generator

Causes

  • Burnt out battery warning light
  • Lamp control circuit wire break
  • Lamp wire short circuit to ground
  • Instrument panel unit malfunction
  • Lamp control ECU output internal fault

How to Fix

  1. Check the battery indicator lamp on the dashboard - replace if burnt out
  2. Measure the voltage at the lamp control connector when the ignition is turned on.
  3. Check the wiring from the ECU to the instrument panel for opens and shorts
  4. Check the instrument panel unit
  5. If external circuits are in good working order - ECU diagnostics
