OBD Guide

P0626

Generator Field/F Terminal Circuit High

Severity
🔴 High
Can you drive?
Yes, but get it checked soon
Approx. repair cost
$17–278 (est.)

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light comes on
  • Charging voltage is higher than normal (more than 14.8 V)
  • Overheating and boiling of the battery
  • Battery light is on
  • Possible electronic failures due to high voltage

Causes

  • Shorting the F terminal wire to the positive power wire
  • Voltage regulator malfunction (stuck at maximum position)
  • Open voltage regulator feedback circuit
  • Internal ECU fault (maximum excitation signal)
  • Short circuit in the generator excitation winding

How to Fix

  1. Immediately measure the charging voltage - if the value is above 15 V, turn off the engine
  2. Check terminal F wire for short to positive
  3. Disconnect the terminal F wire from the generator - measure the charging voltage without a control signal
  4. Check the voltage regulator - replace if faulty
  5. Check the condition of the battery - is it boiling?
  6. If the wire is ok, the regulator or ECU is faulty
