Symptoms
- The Check Engine light comes on
- Charging voltage is below normal (less than 13.5 V)
- Slow battery discharge when the engine is running
- The battery light on the dashboard comes on
- Reduced lighting brightness under high load
Causes
- Short circuit of terminal F wire to ground
- Voltage regulator malfunction (low signal)
- Open circuit in control circuit with short to ground
- Poor contact in terminal F connector
- Internal ECU malfunction (low output signal)
How to Fix
- Measure the charging voltage with the engine running
- Measure the voltage at terminal F of the generator with the engine running.
- Check terminal F wire for short to ground
- Check the generator connector - clean the contacts
- Check the voltage regulator - replace if faulty
- Measure the ECU output voltage on the control wire
