Immobilizer Key Not Programmed - ECM/PCM

Symptoms

  • The Check Engine light and immobilizer light come on
  • The engine does not start or starts and immediately stalls
  • The immobilizer indicator on the instrument panel is flashing
  • The problem occurs after replacing the ECU or key
  • All the keys suddenly stopped working

Causes

  • Using an unprogrammed key
  • Installing a used ECU without reprogramming the immobilizer
  • Damage to the immobilizer memory in the ECU
  • Random reset of the key database during reprogramming
  • Malfunction of the immobilizer antenna (coil in the ignition switch)

How to Fix

  1. Make sure you are using the correct key for the vehicle.
  2. Check the immobilizer antenna (coil around the ignition switch)
  3. Try the second key - if available
  4. Key programming via dealer scanner
  5. When installing a used ECU - complete immobilizer binding procedure
  6. Contact an authorized dealer if you do not have working keys
