Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • Unstable idle after replacing throttle body or ECU
  • The engine is running in emergency mode
  • Jerking when starting to move
  • Incorrect response to the gas pedal

Causes

  • The throttle valve adaptation procedure has not been completed after replacing or cleaning it
  • Adaptation data failure in ECU memory
  • Malfunction of the sensor providing the configuration signal
  • Damage to signal circuit wiring
  • Incompatibility of the new throttle assembly with the ECU

How to Fix

  1. Read all codes and fault history
  2. Check whether the throttle adaptation procedure has been carried out since the last repair work
  3. Perform throttle body adaptation/zero procedure via scanner
  4. Check signal circuit for faults
  5. If necessary, reset and reprogram the ECU
  6. Make sure the installed throttle assembly is compatible
