Symptoms

  • Check Engine light comes on
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Unstable exhaust gas composition (rich or lean mixture)
  • Other Bank 1 O2 Sensor Codes
  • Deterioration of the catalytic converter

Causes

  • Internal fault in the ECU processor circuit (O2 signal processing)
  • Overheating or humidity that damaged the internal circuits of the ECU
  • Voltage surge that damaged the ECU electronics
  • ECU manufacturing defect
  • Mechanical damage to the ECU

How to Fix

  1. Check the correct operation of bank 1 oxygen sensors (rule out external faults)
  2. Check power, ground, and signal circuits of bank 1 O2 sensors
  3. Make sure that the ECU is installed correctly and that there is no physical damage.
  4. Check the ECU supply voltage and the quality of the mass connections
  5. ECU diagnostics on a specialized stand
  6. If an internal malfunction is confirmed, repair or replace the ECU
