Symptoms
- Difficulty starting a diesel engine at low temperatures
- Check Engine Light
- White smoke on cold start
- Unstable engine operation after starting
- The glow plug indicator is on
Causes
- Control wire short circuit to ground
- Broken or damaged control circuit wiring
- GPCM module malfunction
- Faulty glow plug (internal short circuit)
- Oxidation or damage to connectors
How to Fix
- Read OBD-II codes and capture a freeze frame
- Inspect the wiring and connectors of the cylinder 4 spark plug and the GPCM
- Measure the voltage in the cylinder 4 spark plug control circuit
- Check the resistance of the glow plug (normal: 0.5–2 Ohm)
- Check the circuit for short circuit to ground
- If the wiring is working properly, diagnose and replace the GPCM
