Symptoms
- Difficulty starting a diesel engine in cold weather
- Check Engine Light
- White smoke on cold start
- Unstable idle after starting
- Glow plug indicator
Causes
- Control wire short circuit to ground
- Damaged or broken wiring
- GPCM module malfunction
- Faulty glow plug cylinder 5
- Oxidation of control circuit connectors
How to Fix
- Read OBD-II codes
- Inspect the wiring and connectors of the cylinder 5 spark plug and GPCM
- Measure the voltage in the control circuit
- Check the resistance of the glow plug (normal: 0.5–2 Ohm)
- Check the circuit for short to ground
- If in good condition - diagnostics and replacement of GPCM
