Symptoms
- Incorrect temperature readings on the dashboard
- Problems turning on the cooling fan
- Deteriorating fuel economy
- Unstable engine operation at idle
- Possible appearance of the Check Engine indicator
Causes
- Malfunction of coolant temperature sensor No. 2
- Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
- Poor contact in the sensor connector
- Corroded contacts or damaged wiring
- Malfunction of the engine control unit (rare)
How to Fix
- Check the condition of the sensor and its connector
- Check the integrity of the wiring to the sensor
- Measure sensor resistance at different temperatures
- If necessary, replace the coolant temperature sensor
- Reset the error code and check if it appears again
