Symptoms

Causes

• EGR cooler bypass valve position sensor malfunction
• Mechanical failure of the bypass valve
• Problems with the sensor electrical circuit (open circuit, short circuit)
• Bypass valve dirty or stuck
• Engine control module (ECU) malfunction

How to Fix

1. Check the electrical circuit of the sensor for breaks and short circuits
2. Check the functionality of the bypass valve position sensor
3. Clean or replace EGR cooler bypass valve
4. If necessary, replace the bypass valve position sensor
5. Reset the fault code and check if it returns
