Causes

  • Transmission fluid temperature sensor malfunction
  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Poor contact in sensor or TCM connector
  • Corroded or damaged wiring
  • Transmission control module (TCM) malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Check the resistance of the temperature sensor
  2. Inspect the sensor circuit for damage
  3. Clean contacts in sensor and TCM connectors
  4. Replace the transmission fluid temperature sensor if necessary
  5. Check and, if necessary, replace the transmission control module
