Symptoms

  • Incorrect automatic transmission gear shifting
  • Check Engine Light Is On
  • The gearbox goes into emergency mode
  • Difficulty starting the engine (in some models)
  • Inability to switch to certain modes (P, R, N, D)

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
  • Oxidation or poor contact in connectors
  • Mechanical damage to the position sensor
  • Transmission control unit malfunction
  • Problems with the wiring harness in the automatic transmission selector area

How to Fix

  1. Check the integrity of the sensor wiring and connectors
  2. Clean the connector contacts from oxides and dirt
  3. Check the resistance and functionality of the sensor
  4. If necessary, replace the selector lever position sensor
  5. Check and, if necessary, replace damaged sections of the wiring harness
