Symptoms
- Incorrect automatic transmission gear shifting
- Check Engine Light Is On
- The gearbox goes into emergency mode
- Difficulty starting the engine (in some models)
- Inability to switch to certain modes (P, R, N, D)
Causes
- Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
- Oxidation or poor contact in connectors
- Mechanical damage to the position sensor
- Transmission control unit malfunction
- Problems with the wiring harness in the automatic transmission selector area
How to Fix
- Check the integrity of the sensor wiring and connectors
- Clean the connector contacts from oxides and dirt
- Check the resistance and functionality of the sensor
- If necessary, replace the selector lever position sensor
- Check and, if necessary, replace damaged sections of the wiring harness
