Symptoms

• Check Engine light comes on

Causes

• Open or short circuit in the actuator control circuit
• VVT solenoid valve malfunction
• Problems with connectors or contact corrosion
• Malfunction of the valve timing actuator itself
• Problems with the engine control unit

How to Fix

1. Check the integrity of the actuator control circuit
2. Check resistance and operation of VVT solenoid valve
3. Inspect connectors and contacts for damage or corrosion
4. If necessary, replace the valve timing actuator
5. Check and, if necessary, update the ECU software
