Limited driving only, diagnose soon
Approx. repair cost
$56–333 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine light on dashboard
  • Reduced power, especially noticeable in V-engines
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible instability of one row of cylinders
  • Deterioration in dynamics during acceleration

Causes

  • Open or short circuit in bank 2 camshaft actuator wiring
  • Oxidation of the connector of the actuator for changing the profile of the cams of bank 2
  • Bank 2 electromagnetic actuator failure
  • Insufficient oil pressure in the lubrication system of the head of bank 2
  • Engine ECU malfunction

How to Fix

  1. Read frozen frame codes and data, compare with bank 1 codes
  2. Determine the exact location of bank 2 actuator on this engine
  3. Measure the resistance of the actuator winding (the norm is usually 7–15 Ohms)
  4. Check the supply voltage and control signal wire from the ECU
  5. Inspect the wiring and connector of bank 2 actuator
  6. If the wiring and power supply are in good condition, replace the bank 2 actuator
