Causes

• Open or short circuit in VVT solenoid control circuit
• Malfunction of variable valve timing solenoid
• Wiring harness problems or poor connections
• Mechanical failure of the VVT mechanism
• Low oil level or poor oil quality
• Malfunction of the engine control unit (rare)

How to Fix

1. Check the level and condition of the engine oil
2. Visually inspect the VVT solenoid wiring harness and connectors
3. Check the integrity of the solenoid control circuit
4. Test VVT solenoid resistance
5. Check the operating voltage at the solenoid
6. Replace VVT solenoid if necessary
7. Check the valve timing mechanism
8. Reset the error and check for reappearance
